Photo of your meal
Point your camera at the plate. AI identifies the foods, estimates portions, and breaks it down into calories, protein, carbs and fat — with its confidence shown for each estimate.
Snap a photo of your meal, scan a nutrition label, or scan a barcode — SnapKai turns it into calories and macros in seconds. Buy credits when you need them; everything else is free forever.
Installable on any phone as a web app — no app store, no 30% markup passed on to you.
A scan that returns nothing useful never costs a credit. Every AI result lands on a confirmation screen before it touches your log, and failed scans are refunded automatically.
Every AI result shows its confidence and waits on a confirmation screen — nothing is saved until you say so.
Point your camera at the plate. AI identifies the foods, estimates portions, and breaks it down into calories, protein, carbs and fat — with its confidence shown for each estimate.
AI reads the nutrition information panel straight off the packet — including NZ supermarket house brands that no international barcode database has ever heard of.
Instant lookup against a growing NZ product database. Barcode scanning is free today, free tomorrow, free forever. No, really.
SnapKai does the tedious part. You stay in charge of what actually lands in your log.
Take a photo of your plate, scan a nutrition label or barcode, or add food manually. Repeating meals and favourites are one tap.
Foods are identified and portions, calories and macros estimated. Every estimate is labelled as an estimate, with confidence shown — a guess never dresses up as a fact.
Each result lands on a confirmation screen. Adjust portions, swap items, or bin it. A scan that returns nothing useful is refunded — automatically, or with one tap.
Daily calorie and macro reports, 7 and 30-day trends, weight tracking against your goal line, and streaks to keep the habit going.
One-off credit packs in NZ dollars, GST included. Credits never expire and nothing auto-renews — ever.
A meal photo costs 2 credits, a nutrition label scan costs 1, and barcode scanning is always free. If a scan returns nothing useful, the credit comes straight back.

The diet-app playbook is auto-renew traps, fake countdown discounts, and a paywall in front of the barcode scanner. We think that's gross. So:
Everything SnapKai costs is on this page, before you create an account. No "start your free trial to see pricing".
Credit packs and the Year Pass are one-off payments. There is no subscription to remember to cancel, because there is no subscription.
Buy a pack, disappear for a year, come back — your credits are still there.
AI portion guesses come with their confidence shown. You edit before anything is saved.
A scan that returns nothing useful never costs a credit — refunded automatically, or with one tap.
No countdown timers, no fake discounts, no guilt-trip popups when you try to leave.
Export everything or delete everything in one tap, the way the NZ Privacy Act 2020 says it should be.
International barcode databases barely know New Zealand exists. Pak'nSave and Woolworths house brands, the local bakery's packaged goods, half the products in a kiwi trolley — missing, or wildly wrong.
So SnapKai builds its own. Every nutrition label a SnapKai user scans and confirms goes into a shared NZ product database. Scan the Value-brand muesli once, and the next person just gets a free barcode hit.
The app literally gets better for every kiwi who uses it.
House brands and local products international apps miss.
Label data enters the shared database only after a user confirms it.
Once a product is known, looking it up by barcode never costs a credit.
Real NZD prices, July 2026, per month of active use.

|---|---|---|---|
| SnapKai — Year Pass | $2.92 one-off purchase | Unlimited (fair use) | Never |
| SnapKai — Regular pack | $4.00 one-off purchase | Included | Never |
| Lose It! Premium | $5.33 | Subscription only | Yes |

Competitor prices are annual-plan rates in NZD as at July 2026; MyFitnessPal is $32.99/month if you pay month-to-month. Every one of them locks AI photo logging behind an auto-renewing subscription — MyFitnessPal even paywalls the barcode scanner. SnapKai prices assume the Regular pack (300 credits ≈ $9.99 lasting ~2.5 months of daily photo logging) or the $34.99 Year Pass across 12 months.
Straight answers — the same ones you would get after signing up
A meal photo costs 2 credits, a nutrition label scan costs 1 credit, and barcode scanning is always free. Packs start at $4.99 for 120 credits, and you get 30 credits free when you sign up. If a scan returns nothing useful, the credit is refunded.
Never. Buy a pack today, use the last credit in three years — it still works. There are no expiry dates and no "use it or lose it" mechanics.
No. Nothing in SnapKai auto-renews — not the credit packs, and not the Year Pass. The Year Pass is a single one-off payment for 12 months of unlimited AI scans; when it ends, it just ends. You will never find a surprise charge from us.
Barcode scanning, manual entry, repeating meals, favourites, daily calorie and macro reports, 7 and 30-day trends, weight tracking with a goal line, and streaks. Credits only ever pay for the two AI features: photo logging and label scanning.
Honestly? Photo-based portion estimates are typically within ±20–30% — that's the state of the art, and anyone claiming better is selling you something. Every estimate shows its confidence, you can edit everything before saving, and if a result is useless the credit is refunded. Label scans and barcodes are far more precise because they read actual printed numbers.
No. Photos are processed to identify your food, then discarded — they are never stored on our servers and never used to train AI models without your explicit opt-in. What we keep is the food log entry you confirmed.
SnapKai is an installable web app (PWA), so there is no app store. On iPhone: open app.snapkai.com in Safari, tap the Share button, then "Add to Home Screen". On Android: open app.snapkai.com in Chrome and tap "Install app" (or the ⋮ menu → "Add to Home screen"). It then works like any other app, camera and all.
One tap in Settings → "Delete my data", and everything is gone — account, logs, the lot. You can also export everything first, in one tap. That is your right under the NZ Privacy Act 2020, and we built it in from day one.
