Our story
About SnapKai
SnapKai is an AI food tracking app that logs calories and macros from a photo, a nutrition label, or a barcode, priced with one-off credits instead of a subscription.
Why "Kai"
"Kai" is te reo Māori for food. It sits in the name because SnapKai is built around everyday food, not just the global brands that dominate most food-tracking apps: home-cooked meals you can photograph, and packaged food you can scan, with a nutrition label scan to add anything a barcode lookup misses.
Operated by Corvidae Limited
SnapKai is a product of Corvidae Limited. Corvidae builds and operates SnapKai end to end, and is the entity named in SnapKai's Terms and Privacy Policy.
Why we built it
Food logging apps tend to follow the same pattern: a free trial, then a subscription that auto-renews unless you remember to cancel, with the barcode scanner and the AI features often locked behind that subscription. We think that model treats users as a recurring billing target rather than a person trying to build a habit.
SnapKai flips that: pricing is visible before signup, nothing auto-renews, and the parts of the app that matter most for building a logging habit (barcode scanning, manual entry, search, reports, trends, and weight tracking) are free forever. Credits, which never expire, only pay for the two AI features: meal photo scans and nutrition label scans.
A shared food database that grows with every scan
Barcode scans are free. SnapKai looks a barcode up in its own shared product database first and, failing that, in Open Food Facts, an open, crowd-sourced food database. If a product is not found, you can scan its nutrition label or log it manually for free.
Every nutrition label a user scans and confirms is added to the shared database, so a product one person adds becomes a free barcode match for everyone after that. Read more on the barcode calorie scanner page.
Contains data from Open Food Facts, licensed under the ODbL.
Our approach to privacy
A food log can reveal things about your health, so SnapKai treats it as sensitive by default: meal photos are processed to identify food, then discarded rather than stored, data is never sold or used to build advertising profiles, and you can export your data or delete your account in one tap. See the plain-language AI and privacy page or the full Privacy Policy.
SnapKai is not a medical service. It does not provide medical, dietetic, or nutritional advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified health professional.
